Hospice du Grand-Saint-Bernard

We meet in Bourg-Saint-Bernard (1,918 m), Switzerland, a charming Alpine village just below the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard. After a briefing with your guide and a gear check, we embark on our first hike, which includes a diversion through the surrounding valleys to immerse ourselves in the area's breathtaking scenery. At the end of the day, we reach the Hospice du Grand Saint-Bernard (2,473 m), a warm and historic refuge, where we spend the night.

DAY 2 / 4

Night
Hospice du Grand-Saint-Bernard

After a hearty breakfast at the Hospice, we set off to climb Mont Fourchon (2902m), a must-see peak in the region. This route, which can include variants for the more adventurous, offers varied scenery and spectacular views of the Swiss and Italian Alps. Once at the summit, we enjoy a breathtaking view before descending in exceptional powder to the Hospice, where a convivial evening and comforting dinner await us.

Refuge

Today we're off in the direction of the Col de la Fenêtre de Ferret (2,694 m). This versatile route passes through a variety of landscapes and offers spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic Grand Combin. Once at the summit, we enjoy the breathtaking views before descending into the exceptional powder snow. The descent ends in Bourg-Saint-Bernard, before we return to the Plan du Jeu refuge and its Canadian bath for a final evening of conviviality and a good meal in a warm atmosphere.

DAY 4 / 4
D+
1000m

On our final day, we'll be tackling the Pointe de Moline (3032m), a rugged route that will take us to an altitude of 3000m. The climb is gradual and adaptable depending on your level of fitness, with some slightly more technical sections on the approach to the summit. It's the perfect route to end the week on a high note with a final lesson before heading back down to the virgin powder. After this great day's effort, we head back down to Bourg-Saint-Bernard for the end of the expedition.

Your guide, with his expertise, will be able to adapt the itinerary if necessary to ensure an optimal and safe experience.

FrenchFrench

Passionate about the mountains, I discovered climbing in the Bouches-du-Rhône before diving into ski touring in the Ecrins. Since then, I've explored various mountain ranges, from Mont Blanc to Dévoluy, in search of pleasure and sharing. For me, the mountains are all about human adventure and working together on projects.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any previous ski touring experience?

No, this programme is suitable even if you have no specific ski touring experience, provided you have a good level of off-piste skiing and are comfortable in all types of snow. The vertical drops are designed to be accessible: between 500 and 700 m of positive vertical drop per day, with one day at 1000 m. The fact that the tour starts from the Grand Saint-Bernard, which is already at a high altitude, means that the effort needed to reach the summits is limited and the descents can be enjoyed to the full. This organisation makes the tour accessible to skiers who want to discover ski touring without having to be in top physical condition, while guaranteeing a great mountain adventure!

Is there a weight limit for backpacks?

The bag should be light, ideally between 8 and 10 kg, to avoid excessive fatigue. A detailed list of recommended equipment is provided directly after you register.

What type of meals are served in the refuges?

The refuges offer hearty meals adapted to the physical effort involved, with vegetarian options available on request. We will ask you to specify your diet before you set off.

How are you supervised throughout the holiday?

The expedition is led by an experienced mountain guide (UIAGM), who knows the region and is trained in risk management in alpine environments.

What happens during the descent if I get tired or something unexpected happens?

Your guide is trained to deal with the unexpected. If you get tired, you can take breaks or short-cuts. You can then rest in the hospice while the rest of the group continues skiing.

Do the shelters have electricity and mains power?

The refuges offer electricity, so you can recharge your appliances, but access may be limited. Concerning the telephone network: Grand Saint-Bernard hospice: There is a bit of a network, but it is limited and unreliable. It's best not to rely on it to stay connected. Refuge Plan du Jeu: you'll have a telephone network, but speeds may vary depending on your operator. In short, this holiday is an excellent opportunity to switch off and enjoy the alpine experience to the full, while knowing that recharging options and a minimum of connectivity are available if you need them.

Is it possible to hire equipment on site?

Yes, ski touring equipment (skis, skins, avalanche transceivers, shovels, probes, etc.) can be hired locally. When you make your booking, we can arrange for you to hire the equipment. The equipment can then be collected from our partner in Orsières. Orsière is 20 minutes' drive from our meeting point in Bourg-Saint-Bernard.

⛈ What happens if the metreo is wrong?

If the weather is bad but does not represent a danger to participants during the expedition, the activity will continue. If the weather becomes dangerous, the activity will be cancelled and replaced by an alternative offered by our professional guides.

What is included in the price of a DiscoveRent shipment?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Our aim is to provide you with a trustworthy, high-quality experience, while being transparent about how the final cost of your shipment is shared. If you have any further questions about our prices, please contact us here.
