What you will experience

The 200 km bike ride, the 42 km marathon, there are symbolic figures that imply a challenge: climbing your first 4000 m ascent on cross-country skis is one of them.
Explore the Mont Rose massif, Europe's largest concentration of 4,000-metre peaks - Witness sunrises that transform the horizon into a sea of pink.
To complete this high-mountain experience, we have planned two nights in a refuge, at an altitude of over 2000 metres.
A ski descent from the rooftops of Europe that you won't soon forget.

Itinerary

DAY 1 / 3
Accommodation
Mountain hut
Activity time
6 hours skiing

The first day will begin with an off-piste ski descent from Gressoney, situated at the foot of the Lyskamm, an imposing peak rising to 4527 metres. Our route will take us to the Gabiet hut, where we'll have a well-earned lunch break. The afternoon will be devoted to safety exercises and technical practice with the ski touring equipment above the refuge. The night will be spent at the Gabiet hut, at an altitude of 2375 metres.

The day will include around 5 to 6 hours of activities, combining skiing and the exercises we need to prepare ourselves.

DAY 2 / 3
Accommodation

Refuge
Activity time
900m

To start our second day, we'll take the early morning gondola to Passo Salati, at 2980 metres altitude. From here, we'll take the cable car up to Indren, at 3260 metres. Above us, Punta Giordani rises majestically to 4046 metres, potentially your first summit at 4000 metres!

The ascent to Punta Giordani will be made by ski touring over steep slopes. For the last few metres, you'll have to abandon your skis and climb over some rocks on foot. The descent will take us back to Indren, then to Gabiet via one of the various off-piste routes, after putting on the skins for a short ascent.

The night will be spent in the Gabiet refuge, at 2375 metres altitude, offering a peaceful atmosphere in which to rest after a day of mountain adventures.

This day of mountain skiing will add between 800 and 1000 metres of ascent, requiring around 5 to 6 hours of continuous effort.

DAY 3 / 3
D+
Refuge
Activity time
1300m

At the start of our third day, we'll board the morning gondola to Passo Salati, at an altitude of 2980 metres. The cable car will then take us to Indren, at 3260 metres. Our itinerary will begin with the donning of skins, necessary for the ascent to the Mantova hut, perched at 3498 metres.

We'll begin the ascent below the Vincent Pyramid, aiming for the 4,000 metre mark below the Balmenhorn, which rises to 4,167 metres. From here, depending on the weather conditions and the fitness of the participants, we will have several options: climb one or more peaks over 4000 metres, such as the Vincent Pyramid (4255 m), the Balmenhorn (4167 m), the Ludwigshöhe (4342 m), the Signalkuppe or the Punta Gnifetti (4554 m) where the Margherita hut stands.

Most of the descent will follow the same route as the ascent, with a possible break at the Gnifetti or Mantova huts, depending on availability. We will then continue downhill to Gabiet, and ski down the slope to Stafal. We'll part at Gressoney Staffal at around 3pm.

This day, which is rich in altitude, will add between 1000 and 1600 metres of ascent depending on the level and desires of the group, involving around 6 hours of ski touring.

Mountain Guide (UIAGM)

FrenchFrench

Passionate about the mountains, I discovered climbing in the Bouches-du-Rhône before diving into ski touring in the Ecrins. Since then, I've explored various mountain ranges, from Mont Blanc to Dévoluy, in search of pleasure and sharing. For me, the mountains are all about human adventure and working together on projects.

Frequently asked questions

I've never done ski touring before, is that serious, Doctor?

This expedition is particularly accessible to novice ski tourers, provided they have a good level of off-piste skiing and are in good physical condition.

What do I do if I need to hire ski touring equipment?

If you don't have your own ski touring equipment (touring skis, skins, knives, poles), we can take care of your rental booking: once you've registered, we'll send you a form to fill in with your height and weight to reserve the right touring skis, which you can then collect from the local shop with your guide on the first day of the expedition.

How comfortable are the refuges?

High mountain refuges offer a certain level of comfort: you'll sleep in beds with blankets provided (you'll just need to bring a meat bag for hygiene reasons), and there will be heating and electrical sockets.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

Are instalment payment options available?
