We arrive in Freyr at around 10am, where we'll meet Lolotte, our instructor for the weekend.

The morning will be devoted to learning the technical aspects of rock climbing, according to each person's level. We'll have a chance to climb to put the theory into practice, before having lunch.

In the early afternoon, we'll be given explanations relating to a night in a portaledge (hoisting, safety, installations, practical aspects, etc.).

We'll then put what we've learned into practice, with the aim of creating our own cosy little nest high up in the air. The day will end with an aperitif and a meal shared together on the cliff.

After a night to remember, we'll have breakfast and admire the view from our portaledge. The rest of the morning will be spent getting our gear back down to dry land.

After that, we'll be free to do as many activities as we like under Lolotte's supervision. Whether it's top-roping, lead climbing or even trad climbing, Lorraine is ready to teach us everything we need to know, according to our level and abilities!

The expedition ends around 6pm.

I'm the manager of Le Cabri (a not-for-profit climbing organisation in the Namur region for your children), I'm in charge of management training in Belgium and I've been teaching climbing for 12 years.

I'm passionate about climbing and I'm very active in many different aspects of the sport, because my aim is to understand the finer points of this wonderful activity! I want to, and do, approach climbing in all its forms! To open my mind as much as possible to everything that climbing can offer me in my way of life. I want climbing to guide my whole life and be a great example for the people I have the pleasure of working with! :-)

Supervision by a professional instructor: Throughout the weekend, you'll be supervised by Lorraine aka Lolotte: an experienced climber with a passion for all forms of climbing.
Catering: Apart from your picnic on the first day, all meals are included in the expedition.
Overnight in a portaledge: Everything is in place to ensure you have a sensational night's sleep in complete safety.
Equipment: All technical climbing equipment will be provided (harness, helmet, ropes, belays, etc.).

If you don't have a car, you should know that we encourage car-pooling between participants by creating a whatsapp group 15 days before departure: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!

  • If the minimum number of participants is reached, departure is confirmed!
  • If the minimum number of participants is not reached, we will give you a full refund.
Departure is confirmed 15 days in advance for adventures lasting more than 4 days. Departure is confirmed 7 days prior to departures of less than 4 days.

Frequently asked questions

I don't have any climbing experience, can I take part?

Yes, of course. Having climbing experience is a plus, but not compulsory. All we ask is that you feel physically and, above all, mentally capable of facing the void. Sleeping at height isn't for everyone!

I don't have any climbing equipment. Is that serious, Doctor?

No problem if you don't have any climbing equipment: we'll provide you with all the equipment you need to climb and sleep on the cliffs in complete safety. However, if you do have climbing equipment, we strongly recommend that you take it with you!

What about insurance for rock climbing?

Insurance for rock climbing is included in the price of your expedition.

What is a portaledge?

According to wikipedia 😜 : "A portaledge, also known as a wall tent, is a hanging system designed for climbers who spend several days and nights on long routes. An assembled portaledge is a fabric platform framed by a metal frame; this frame is attached to a belay point by means of adjustable straps."

What do I need to sleep in a portaledge?

All technical and safety equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your bivouac equipment (sleeping bag, mattress, clothes suited to the weather).

⛈ What happens if the metreo is wrong?

If the weather is bad but does not represent a danger to participants during the expedition, the activity will continue. If the weather becomes dangerous, the activity will be cancelled and replaced by an alternative offered by our professional guides.

What is included in the price of a DiscoveRent shipment?

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed on the dates of your choice. To make a privatisation request, go to the expedition of your choice and privatise it using the button under the "see departures" button.
