Itinerary

DAY 1 / 8
Night
Hotel
We meet at Kuusamo airport, the starting point of our Arctic adventure. Once there, we settle into our rooms before joining our guide for an introductory briefing. In the evening, we share a dinner in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. After this first meal, we pick up our winter gear, ready to face the icy wonders of the next few days. The night is lulled by the soothing silence of the surrounding forest.
DAY 2 / 8
Distance
10km
Night
hotel
We start the day with an invigorating breakfast, then set off for a morning of snowshoeing. Donning our gear, we set off to explore the wonders of Oulanka National Park. The snow crunches beneath our feet as we hike through landscapes enmeshed with coniferous forests, frozen rivers and sparkling waterfalls. The trail leads us to the Myllykoski rapids, where a suspension bridge and an old mill add a picturesque touch to our hike. After a well-deserved lunch break, we can enjoy the afternoon on our own with snowshoes or skis, or relax in our chalet. The evening is devoted to a fine dinner, which can be combined with a sauna session to loosen the muscles.
DAY 3 / 8
Activity time
4 to 5 hours
Night
hotel
Today we strap on our cross-country skis for a day's introduction to this emblematic sport of Lapland. After a brief introduction to basic techniques, we glide gently along the marked trails, surrounded by the snow-covered taiga landscape. The vast expanses of white and the soothing calm of the forest accompany us as we gradually gain confidence in our gliding. In the afternoon, we have the choice of continuing to explore the trails with more cross-country skiing or enjoying a moment's rest at the Basecamp. In the evening, we gather for a convivial dinner, taking advantage of the facilities at our Basecamp to relax.
DAY 4 / 8
Activity time
2 to 3 hours
Night
hotel
We start the day with an energetic breakfast before setting off on an unforgettable experience: a dogsled ride through Riisitunturi National Park. We visit the husky farm, where we learn the techniques of driving the sleds before venturing out into the wilderness, where the ride through centuries-old forests and snow-covered marshes is truly enchanting. Each sleigh is shared by two people, and we have the opportunity to change drivers along the way. After the adventure, we reward the dogs with petting and treats, then enjoy a hot drink and sandwiches on the way back to the farm. In the evening, we set off in search of the Northern Lights. Equipped with headlamps and snowshoes, we venture into the darkness in the hope of catching a glimpse of these spectacular dances of light.
DAY 5 / 8
Activity time
4 to 5 hours
Night
hotel
After breakfast, we transfer to the Ruka ski resort. We have the freedom to choose our activities: downhill skiing, snowboarding... For those who prefer to stay at the camp, self-guided activities are also available. We spend the day enjoying the various options, then return to the camp for a delicious dinner.
DAY 6 / 8
Activity time
6 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Night
Quinzee or hotel (your choice)
This morning, we dive into learning wilderness survival skills. We discover the art of building a quinzee - a kind of snow igloo. After shaping and digging our quinzee, we also learn how to make a fire, an essential skill in the Arctic environment. Once the quinzee is complete, we have the option of spending the night in it, although our room is not far away if we prefer a little more comfort. We end the day with a convivial meal and a relaxing moment in the sauna.
DAY 7 / 8
Night
hotel
The last day is dedicated to freedom of action. We can choose from a range of optional activities or explore the surrounding area on our own. Whether we choose to try a new activity or enjoy the last few moments of tranquillity, the day promises to be a memorable one. We enjoy an included lunch before gathering for a festive farewell dinner. The evening is an opportunity to share memories and relax one last time in the sauna.
DAY 8 / 8
After a final breakfast together, it's time to say goodbye as we transfer to Kuusamo airport for our return flight, the memories of this week's adventure etched in our minds forever.

What is included in the price of a DiscoveRent shipment?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Our aim is to provide you with a trustworthy, high-quality experience, while being transparent about how the final cost of your shipment is shared. If you have any further questions about our prices, please contact us here.
