What you will experience

We'll take you deep into the heart of the Ardennes, through the Ourthe Valley, for a scenic bike ride. Explore historic sites, charming villages, and stunning views as cherry on the waffle.
Join a group limited to 8 participants for an intimate experience. Spend the night in a comfortable bivouac overlooking the Ourthe, where you'll cook pizzas in a wood-fired oven and enjoy a convivial evening around the fire.
Immerse yourself in the world of bicycle travel, and learn how to manage your route and your equipment while exploring wild landscapes. You'll discover the freedom of touring by bike and, why not, it'll inspire you to embark on your own two-wheeled odyssey.
With an itinerary adapted to your level, discover the Ardennes in a different way: gravel paths, deep forests and breathtaking views, while learning the basics of touring cycling thanks to Pauline, your passionate guide.

Meet at Bomal station at 9.30am, in cycling gear. Briefing on the route and adjustment of our bikes before starting the adventure. We'll be cycling along the banks of the Ourthe, alternating between small roads and gravel paths winding through the forests and meadows of the region.


We pass through Wéris, famous for its mysterious megaliths and limestone houses, and Durbuy, the smallest town in the world, where we'll have time to discover its medieval charm and cobbled streets before getting back on the road.


In the afternoon, we follow the Ourthe, alternating between Ravel and small roads to enjoy the peace and nature surrounding the river.


At the end of the day, we reach our camp perched on the heights of Comblain, offering a breathtaking view over the valley. We set up camp in wooden cabins and then prepare pizzas together, baked in a traditional oven. The evening continues around the campfire.

Wake up to the sound of nature and enjoy an invigorating breakfast as the first light falls on the valley. After preparing our picnic, we set off again, briefly skirting the banks of the Ourthe before taking to the heights.


Today's route takes us into a wilder world, with breathtaking views over the hills and meadows between Comblain and Durbuy. We pass through historic villages, where stone buildings and small churches bear witness to the region's rural past.


Halfway along the route, we take a lunch break in the countryside, the perfect opportunity to take a breather and enjoy the peace and quiet.


In the afternoon, we continue through the Ardennes forests, enjoying one last beautiful undulating route before gradually descending towards the Ourthe valley. We finish this cycling adventure at the end of the afternoon.

The guide's supervision: during these two days you will be guided by Pauline, a cycling guide.
Accommodation: you will sleep one night in an unusual bivouac with mattress, duvet and pillow provided.

The bike and its equipment: For this expedition, you'll need to bring your own bike in good condition, as well as ruscksack or your panniers and helmet.

The expedition starts at Bomal station, so we strongly recommend that you come by train.

  • Departure station < Bomal station (SNCB)

With the SNCB, you can transport your bike with a special ticket:

  • Bicycle ticket (€4): valid all day on the entire SNCB network.

You can drive to Bomal station and leave your car in a free car park.

If you don't have a car, you should know that we encourage car-pooling between participants by creating a whatsapp group 15 days before departure: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire a bike for my expedition with Wildhartt?

Wildhartt does not offer a bike hire service. For this adventure, we ask you to bring your own bike in good condition (gravel, mountain bike or VTC), as well as a helmet and suitable panniers. If you don't have a bike, we can recommend rental solutions in the area. However, there is no direct hire service in Bomal. So you'll need to pick up your bike in another town and arrange for it to be transported to the start of the expedition by car or train. Don't hesitate to contact us beforehand so that we can help you find the best rental option for your itinerary and needs!

What type of bike should I bring for this tour of the Ardennes?

For this adventure, we recommend a mountain bike or gravel bike in good condition. The itinerary takes in a variety of routes, from tarmac roads to forest paths and rougher tracks. Here are a few details to help you choose your bike: Gravel: Ideal if you're comfortable on mixed paths. Light and fast, it allows you to ride efficiently on tarmac sections while still performing well on dirt roads. MTB: Perfect if you prefer comfort and stability on the most technical and rugged trails. A good choice if you expect to encounter muddy or stony sections. Essential equipment: Helmet: Mandatory for your safety. Panniers: Choose well-fastened panniers to carry your equipment without upsetting your riding balance. A rucksack can be uncomfortable over time. If you're not sure which bike to choose, don't hesitate to contact us so that we can help you make the best choice for your level and preferences!

What equipment do we need?

Once you have signed up for the expedition, you will receive a roadbook containing an exhaustive list of the equipment you need to take with you.

How do I get to the start of the expedition?

The meeting point for this expedition is Bomal station, which is easily accessible by public transport. By train: Bomal station is served by the SNCB, which means you can get there comfortably from a number of major Belgian cities (Brussels, Liège, Namur, etc.). If you come by train with your bike, be aware that there is a €4 supplement for transporting the bike, with no reservation necessary. By car: Parking is available close to the station for those who prefer to come with their own vehicle. The trip ends in the same area, making it easy to return using the same means of transport.

Can the menu be adapted to suit special dietary requirements?

All meals are prepared collectively in a friendly atmosphere. If you have a special diet, our guide will make sure you have suitable options and can advise you on what to take with you if necessary.

How comfortable is our overnight bivouac?

You'll spend the night in small wooden cabins in the heart of the countryside, with a breathtaking view over the Ourthe valley. Everything is provided: shelter, tent, mattress, duvet and pillow. So you don't have to carry anything heavy. A covered shelter with table and benches is also available. A pizza oven on site will allow us to cook together and enjoy home-made pizzas prepared over a wood fire.

What does the price of a Wildhartt adventure include?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Can I privatise this expedition for my group?

Yes, all our expeditions can be privatised for a group already formed, on the dates of your choice.

To make your request, go to the expedition that interests you and click on "Privatise the expedition". We'll take care of the rest!

What happens if the weather is bad?

At Wildhartt, nature is our playground, whatever the conditions.
Our expeditions are designed to be experienced to the full, come sun, rain, snow or even wind. Our guides are on hand to adapt the itinerary, activities and accommodation to the prevailing conditions, to ensure the best possible experience.


⚠️ Safety exception: If conditions become truly dangerous (storm, avalanche, flood, etc.), Wildhartt may exceptionally cancel a departure.

📅 This decision will only be taken as a last resort, less than a week before departure.


If we have to cancel an expedition for safety reasons, you have two options:
  • Postpone your adventure free of charge to another departure.
  • Receive a full refund of the sums already paid.
