Hiking
We meet at 8.30am to get to know each other and finish checking our bags. We then set off in the direction of the small village of Corbel, nestling at the foot of the pointe de Thivelet, which offers a lovely view of the Roche Veyrand cliffs. We then cross to the other side of the Guiers Vif to climb up to the castle ruins. A lovely viewpoint and perhaps the perfect spot for a first picnic. We then pass through the forest to reach our gîte in the afternoon. It's a good opportunity to take stock of this first day over a tasty snack or a glass of beer, depending on your preference!
After breakfast, we set off towards the col to climb one of the massif's flagship peaks. Starting in the forest, we will then emerge onto the mountain pastures, which are often occupied by flocks of sheep in summer. This is a good opportunity to talk about what to do in the event of an encounter with patous, for example. If we still have some energy left, perhaps we'll take to the paths towards the Grand Som, one of the highest peaks in the massif, rising to over 2000m and offering a breathtaking view of the Grande Chartreuse monastery. Or perhaps we'd prefer to pass by the monastery, the mother house of the hermit monks of the Carthusian order, founded in 1084 and listed as a historic monument. In any case, we'll be back in the village in the afternoon after this plunge into history.
We've got the biggest day ahead of us and a great climb on the programme today! Weather permitting, we'll be climbing another of the Chartreuse's legendary peaks. The closer we get to the summit, the steeper the slope becomes! We will then enter the Hauts de Chartreuse nature reserve, which stretches from Mont Granier in the north to the Dent de Crolles in the south. Home to marmots, chamois and ibex... perhaps we'll be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this wildlife. We'll enjoy the high plateaux before heading back down to our gîte for the late afternoon.
A little more distance for this 4th day, but less climbing! We'll be able to make the most of the high plateaux, which are ideal for long walks. We're sure to come across a few herds, as the plateaux are a major pastoral area in the massif. The haberts, the lapiaz, the geology, the wildlife... we'll have plenty to talk about! And for those who wish, there's also time to meditate during the walk. We'll make our way back down to the valley via a magnificent cirque before returning to our gîte for our last evening together.
Will we still have the strength in our legs to make a final ascent today? We'll leave our village in the morning and follow the Cozon. Either we'll climb one last summit, or we'll enjoy a tour of the hamlets of Les Entremonts. Either way, it's a great way to finish off the day and enjoy this magnificent valley before heading back to the car park for mid-afternoon. And don't forget to stop off at the dairy cooperative before setting off again... for cheese lovers!
After two long trips that made me fall in love with the mountains, I decided to settle in the Alps. I chose Chambéry, an ideal location between the Bauges, Chartreuse and Belledonne massifs. Since 2024, I've been devoting myself fully to my job as a mountain leader, a career change that allows me to combine exploration, environmental awareness, a taste for challenge and training, all in the heart of the mountains, a fascinating and constantly evolving environment.
The departure point is the car park of the Désert d'Entremont cross-country skiing area.
