Itinerary

DAY 1 / 5
Night
Bivouac
Distance
6km
D+
410m

We'll meet at 9.30am at the car park on the Beure plateau: meeting point and distribution of equipment.

Departure from the large car park on the Beure plateau at around 11am.

We'll get to grips with our personal and shared equipment, learn how to drive a pulka and take our first steps with snowshoes. A day with no major changes in altitude, but with superb views of the high plateaux of the Vercors.

Arriving at the Pré Peyret hut at around 3pm, we set up our bivouac and tipi tent for our first night.

DAY 2 / 5
Night
Bivouac
Distance
12.5km
D+
580m

A wild stage in the heart of the Nature Reserve: a Siberian atmosphere across the plains of the high plateaux.

We'll head for the beautiful Chaumailloux hut at the foot of Mont Aiguille. We'll put down the pulkas to climb to the summit of the Tête Chevalière, which gives us access to an incredible viewpoint over the eastern rocky barrier of the Vercors. This is still a relatively easy stage, but longer.

For those who don't want to do the summit and back, there's no obligation. Overnight in a bivouac or hut (if there is space).

DAY 3 / 5
Night
Bivouac
Distance
11km
D+
510m

We head due north to get closer to the highest point in the Vercors: Grand Veymont at 2341 metres. The stage begins along the Rochers du Parquet, a magnificent viewpoint over the Alps. We then plunge back under the Grand Veymont on the west side, where the atmosphere is wilder and more forested, with large expanses of hooked pine.

Overnight bivouac at Jasse de la Chau. It is possible to climb to the Pas de la Ville without the pulkas if the bivouac is set up early enough. Ibex are often seen here.

This is a long stage, with no particularly technical sections and a wide variety of landscapes.

DAY 4 / 5
Night
Bivouac
Distance
16.5km
D+
720m

We head back west to the Pré-Grandu forest hut for a picnic, before heading back to Pré Peyret for the second part of the day.

It's still an immersive stage, with atypical expanses and remarkable panoramas.

Still a long way to go, but on good tracks. Overnight in a bivouac or hut (Pré Peyret).

DAY 5 / 5
Distance
10km
D+
380m

Back to the Beure car park: Part of the route is different from the first day. We follow the southern ridges plunging down into the Diois. There is an opening towards the Baronnies to the south, and a beautiful view as far as Mont Ventoux.

The last stage is short and easy. Return around 2pm.

Having loved the mountains since childhood, my passion has become my profession. In my spare time, I set up climbing routes, maintain the trails, go on new ski tours and help run the Refuge des Invincibles in Val Pellice - all to enhance the mountains where I was born. The Vaud Valleys are my ideal base camp, but I'm also regularly in the other massifs of the Alps and the Appennines.

Frequently asked questions

Is winter bivouac equipment provided?

Yes, we provide all the winter bivouac equipment: 4-season tents, a cold-weather duvet and a self-inflating mattress per person. We also include a large communal tent with a wood-burning stove and the necessary cooking equipment.

Will we have to carry our rucksack the whole way?

Yes, as we'll be roaming for 5 days, we'll be carrying our rucksacks all the way.

Will we have access to sanitary facilities (showers, toilets)?

No, on this expedition we will be totally self-sufficient for 5 days. So there will be no showers or toilets. Isn't that the real adventure?

What happens if there's no snow?

We are first and foremost hikers, and when the snow fails, we still ensure the departure of our trips. The atmosphere and the winter light are there for all to enjoy, and even if you have to wear snowshoes for a while, or sometimes do without them, the scenery is still splendid. So make sure you have good walking shoes.

⛈ What happens if the metreo is wrong?

If the weather is bad but does not represent a danger to participants during the expedition, the activity will continue. If the weather becomes dangerous, the activity will be cancelled and replaced by an alternative offered by our professional guides.

What is included in the price of a DiscoveRent shipment?

At Wildhartt, we attach particular importance to price transparency for our shipments. Our approach is based on a clear breakdown of costs, aimed at providing a better understanding of the elements included in the total amount. Here's how we allocate the percentages:

  • 30% for our guides: We believe that our experienced guides play a crucial role in the success of each activity. That's why we make sure we allocate a significant proportion to pay for their expertise and supervision.
  • 35% for accommodation and food: We consider comfortable accommodation and quality food to be essential elements of an enriching experience.
  • 10% for equipment and transport: The safety and comfort of our participants is paramount. With this part of the total amount, we can guarantee that the equipment required is in excellent condition and adequate for each activity. Transport costs also come into play when they are essential during an expedition.
  • 25% for expedition participation and running costs: These costs cover the logistical, administrative and organisational aspects of the expedition, as well as the overall management of the experience, from start to finish.

Our aim is to provide you with a trustworthy, high-quality experience, while being transparent about how the final cost of your shipment is shared. If you have any further questions about our prices, please contact us here.
