Itinerary

DAY 1 / 4
Accommodation
Bivouac
D+
410m
Distance
6km

We'll meet at 9.30am at the car park on the Beure plateau: meeting point and distribution of equipment.

Departure from the large car park on the Beure plateau at around 11am.

We'll get to grips with our personal and shared equipment, learn how to drive a pulka and take our first steps with snowshoes. A day with no major changes in altitude, but with superb views of the high plateaux of the Vercors.

Arriving at the Pré Peyret hut at around 3pm, we set up our bivouac and tipi tent for our first night.

DAY 2 / 4
Accommodation
Bivouac
D+
580m
Distance
12.5km

A wild stage in the heart of the Nature Reserve: a Siberian atmosphere across the plains of the high plateaux.

We'll head for the beautiful Chaumailloux hut at the foot of Mont Aiguille. We'll put down the pulkas to climb to the summit of the Tête Chevalière, which gives us access to an incredible viewpoint over the eastern rocky barrier of the Vercors. This is still a relatively easy stage, but longer.

For those who don't want to do the summit and back, there's no obligation. Overnight in a bivouac or hut (if there is space).

DAY 3 / 4
Accommodation
Bivouac
D+
510m
Distance
11km

We head due north to get closer to the highest point in the Vercors: Grand Veymont at 2341 metres. The stage begins along the Rochers du Parquet, a magnificent viewpoint over the Alps. We then plunge back under the Grand Veymont on the west side, where the atmosphere is wilder and more forested, with large expanses of hooked pine.

Overnight bivouac at Jasse de la Chau. It is possible to climb to the Pas de la Ville without the pulkas if the bivouac is set up early enough. Ibex are often seen here.

This is a long stage, with no particularly technical sections and a wide variety of landscapes.

DAY 4 / 4
Accommodation
Bivouac
D+
720m
Distance
16.5km

We head back west to the Pré-Grandu forest hut for a picnic, before heading back to Pré Peyret for the second part of the day.

It's still an immersive stage, with atypical expanses and remarkable panoramas.

Still a long way to go, but on good tracks. Overnight in a bivouac or hut (Pré Peyret).

Having loved the mountains since childhood, my passion has become my profession. In my spare time, I set up climbing routes, maintain the trails, go on new ski tours and help run the Refuge des Invincibles in Val Pellice - all to enhance the mountains where I was born. The Vaud Valleys are my ideal base camp, but I'm also regularly in the other massifs of the Alps and the Appennines.
