Hiking
We meet at 9am in the village of Fouillouse. After getting to know each other, going over our equipment and organising our rucksacks for our itinerary, we set off from Fouillouse, the starting point for our tour. From this little hamlet, we'll head towards the Col de Mirandol, in the middle of the mountain pastures. From here, the landscape opens out onto the Larche valley and the surrounding peaks. Descend to the hamlet of Saint Ours and stay overnight at the village inn.
This second day begins with a gradual ascent to discover ancient fortifications and a bit of local history. Then it's on to the high mountain pastures of the Rouchouse valley, a favourite haunt of marmots. We'll discover the magnificent Lac de la Reculaye in its verdant setting at the foot of the tête de l'Alp. It's in this area that we'll be looking for a place for our first bivouac.
This day will be marked by the ascent of several passes that will take us back and forth across the border between France and Italy, the Val Maira and the Haute Ubaye, following the example of the old peddlers. The landscapes will change dramatically, with rocky chaos, mineral cirques, vast meadows and sharp peaks. We'll set up our second bivouac in the peaceful Vallonet lakes area.
A fine ascent in a very mineral setting to start the day: the Col de Stroppia has to be earned on the Ubaye side! But what a panorama when you cross it at the foot of the imposing Massour! After a descent on the Italian side, we'll climb back up to the Col de la Gypière, which offers an unbeatable view of the Lac des Neuf Colours. We then descend gently into the ancient Chambeyron glacial valley and its lakes, where we can set up our last bivouac close to the Chambeyron refuge.
Not much climbing on this day, or only as an option! After waking up facing the Brec de Chambreyron, we'll head upwards with light packs towards the Pas de la Souvage, to take in the views over the Ubaye valley. Then we'll head back down to the small listed hamlet of Fouillouse, where we'll round off our tour at around 3pm with some local specialities.
A mountain leader, anthropologist and scientific and social mediator, Christelle leaps happily from one group to the next to discover everyone's world and share her enthusiasm for the high peaks and little lost paradises that she loves so much. She'll be delighted to accompany you as you discover the local fauna, flora, culture and history.
It is possible to take a train to the station of Embrun.
From there, take either the shuttle bus or a taxi to Fouillouse, Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, France.
