Hiking
We meet at 9.30am at the Col de Menée. After organising the rucksacks for our tour, we can finally set off on our adventure towards the mountain pastures and crests of Jiboui. From here, the view of the Vercors and Dévoluy is superb, and the history of the site is astonishing. A descent through forests and pastures takes us from one bank of the Sareymond stream to the other, to the Sappet waterfall.
We are now in the Diois, south of the Vercors, and the vegetation is changing, as are the habitats of the small hamlets we pass through: Les Nonnières and Bénevise, the stop-off point for our first stage.
The second day begins with a gradual ascent through the lavender fields to the magnificent sheepfolds at Tussac. A small summit popular with Chamois allows us to discover the cliffs of the incredible Archiane cirque, home to Vultures and Bearded Vultures. We'll then take one of the many 'pas' in the Vercors to descend into the welcoming Vallon de Combeau, where we'll spend the night.
On this stage, a warm-up will take us to an unspoilt valley surrounded by beautiful limestone cliffs. On this third day, we'll be walking through the heart of the largest nature reserve in mainland France! Crossing the valley will take us to a small, seemingly insignificant summit, offering an incredible 360° panorama.
Vast stretches of unspoilt wilderness then open up before us: as we contemplate these rolling plateaux, our wanderings will take us to our final refuge: the Chaumailloux sheepfold, a place steeped in history, facing the "Mont inaccesible", the cradle of mountaineering.
After a night and breakfast in the hills, we'll take an even wilder route back. We'll follow the ridges, passing the tête chevalière and its impressive ravines.
After a descent through the alpine pastures, a final ridge section will be the grand finale facing the Ecrins and the Dévoluy, taking us gently back to the Col de Menée, where we will end our adventure.
A mountain leader, anthropologist and scientific and social mediator, Christelle leaps happily from one group to the next to discover everyone's world and share her enthusiasm for the high peaks and little lost paradises that she loves so much. She'll be delighted to accompany you as you discover the local fauna, flora, culture and history.
You can get to Grenoble station by train. Once you arrive at the station, take a TER train that will take you to the village of Clelles, just a few minutes from your meeting point.
From there you can ask your adventure companions or guide to drive a few minutes to pick you up.
You can drive to the Col de Menée and leave your car in a free car park near where we'll be meeting.
If you don't have a car, you should know that we are encouraging car-pooling between participants by creating a whatsapp group 15 days before the start: an opportunity to get to know each other before you even start your expedition!
